Quick answer: ChatGPT has four personal plans in November 2026: Free ($0), Go ($8/month), Plus ($20/month) and Pro ($100, $200 or $500/month). Free and Go are good for everyday chatting but show ads and do not include the most advanced tools. Plus is the best choice for most people who use ChatGPT for work or study. Pro only makes sense if you hit the Plus limits every week.

ChatGPT's pricing has changed a lot in 2026. OpenAI added ads to the free plan, made the cheap Go plan available worldwide and split Pro into three tiers. If you are not sure which plan to choose, this guide explains what each one costs, what you really get and who it is for.

ChatGPT Free: what you get for $0

The free plan is enough for simple everyday questions, short texts, translations and quick explanations. You can chat as much as you like with the default model, but the most advanced models, tools and higher limits are reserved for paid plans.

  • Good: no cost, works on the web and in the apps, good for light use.
  • Limits: lower limits for file uploads, image creation and research tools; no agent mode.
  • Ads: since OpenAI's advertising rollout in February 2026, the free plan is ad-supported.

ChatGPT Go ($8): the budget plan

Go sits between Free and Plus. It uses the same default model as the free plan, but gives you roughly ten times more room: more messages, more file uploads, more image creation and longer memory. It became available worldwide in January 2026.

  • Choose Go if you use ChatGPT every day for chatting, writing and simple tasks, and you keep running into the free plan's limits.
  • Skip Go if you need the strongest models, agent mode or advanced coding tools. Go does not include them, and it may still show ads.

ChatGPT Plus ($20): the plan most people should choose

Plus is the first plan without ads, and it is where ChatGPT's full toolset starts. For $20 a month you get:

  • access to OpenAI's stronger models for difficult questions, writing and analysis,
  • Deep Research for long, source-based reports,
  • agent mode, which can complete multi-step tasks for you (with a usage cap that resets every few hours),
  • Codex for coding, plus image and voice tools and custom GPTs.

Plus is billed monthly. If you use ChatGPT for work, school or a side project most days, it is the best value. To learn more about the newest models available on paid plans, read our guides to GPT-6 in ChatGPT and GPT-6.1 Terra.

ChatGPT Pro ($100, $200 or $500): for power users only

Pro is split into three tiers. All three include everything in Plus, plus OpenAI's “Pro” reasoning level, the highest limits and faster, priority access. The difference between them is mainly how much you can use:

  • Pro 100 ($100/month) – about 5 times the usage of Plus. Added in April 2026 to close the big gap between $20 and $200.
  • Pro 200 ($200/month) – about 20 times the usage of Plus, for people who work with ChatGPT and Codex for many hours a day.
  • Pro 500 ($500/month) – the highest limits and the fastest speed in ChatGPT's work and coding tools.

Most people never need Pro. A simple test: if you see “you've reached your limit” on Plus several times a week and it stops your work, try Pro 100 first.

Business and Enterprise

For teams, ChatGPT Business costs $20 per user per month with yearly billing, or $25 with monthly billing, with a minimum of two users. It adds a shared workspace, admin controls and business data protections. Enterprise is priced individually for large companies that need advanced security, compliance and support.

How ChatGPT compares to Claude and Gemini

TierChatGPTClaudeGoogle Gemini
Free$0 (with ads)$0$0
BudgetGo, $8—Google AI Plus, $4.99
StandardPlus, $20Pro, $20 ($17/month billed yearly)Google AI Pro, $19.99
PowerPro, from $100Max, $100 or $200Google AI Ultra

The standard tier costs about $20 at all three companies. The real difference is in the tools and models you get. For a full feature comparison, see ChatGPT vs Gemini vs Claude in 2026.

Which ChatGPT plan should you choose?

  • Free: you use ChatGPT a few times a week for simple questions.
  • Go ($8): you chat every day, hit the free limits and do not need advanced tools.
  • Plus ($20): ChatGPT is part of your work or studies. This is the right plan for most people.
  • Pro ($100+): you hit Plus limits every week, run long research tasks or code with Codex for hours.
  • Business: you share ChatGPT with a team and need admin control and data protection.

Tip: you can cancel or change your plan at any time in your ChatGPT account settings. Start with the cheapest plan that fits your needs and upgrade only when its limits really slow you down.
